Apple Crumble
A family classic - I used some frozen berries in this version - use your imagination to make this even more excellent!

Possibly the greatest dessert ever? We think it might be. It's certainly a family favourite in our house. Tweak this as you see fit - see my tips below for some ideas!
Ingredients
For the filling
- 3 medium or 2 large bramley apples
- 2 handfuls frozen mixed berries
- 2 tbsp caster sugar
For the topping
- 150g plain flour
- 75g almost-melted butter
- 110g caster sugar
Method
- 1Peel, core and chop the 2-3 Bramley apples into chunks. Add to a saucepan with 2 tbsp water and 2 tbsp caster sugar.
- 2Heat gently for 5-10 minutes until the apples are just beginning to soften. Add 2 handfuls of frozen berries and stir through.
- 3While that's cooking, weigh out 150g plain flour and 110g caster sugar into a mixing bowl. Pour over 75g almost-melted butter and mix with a spoon until it forms a crumbly texture.
- 4Tip the fruit into an ovenproof dish and top with the crumble.
- 5Bake at 160°C (fan) for 40 minutes until golden and bubbling.
Serve
Serve with ice cream, custard or double cream.
Tips
- Add ½ tsp cinnamon to the apples for a flavour boost.
- A handful of oats or flaked almonds in the crumble topping adds a nice texture.
- The fruit mixture can be cooled, then topped with the crumble and chilled in the fridge for a few hours before baking.
